What's On Your Vanity?

How ironic that I should have been thinking about optimism yesterday on a day that made it hard for any of us to be optimistic, a day that challenges the very notion of optimism in this seemingly dark world. But, for me, blogs can be a form of escapism. So, please, be safe and escape away.

Today I would like to introduce Clare from the lovely blog Suddenly City.  She was kind enough to prepare a peak at her well-stocked vanity.

Clare writes,
Firstly, I love Meredith's idea of sharing vanities. What a great way to give a little insight into different people's routines and spaces. Personally, my vanity has always been a little sanctuary. It's a place where I get ready for the day ahead and soak in the morning (while watching the Today Show, of course).

Below are a few things on my vanity that I use on a daily basis:

Nubian Heritage Coconut and Papaya Lotion - I am a sucker for anything coconut scented (or flavored for that matter), and this lotion smells so good. It's a great nightly moisturizer - thick but not too sticky!

Hourglass Ambient Powder Compact - I recently switched to a few Hourglass products (as you'll see), and although I'm not sure how long my wallet will be able to handle it, I am in love with this powder. It's like a bronzer, blush, and illuminator in one. I brush it over the tinted moisturizer, and it gives me the perfect "I just woke up glowing like this" look.

Hourglass Illusion Tinted Moisturizer - I was searching FOREVER for a good BB cream or tinted moisturizer that kept my face hydrated and even toned, but one that was not as heavy as a foundation, and this one finally did the trick! It seems thick at first, but I love mixing it with my plain moisturizer to smooth it out. (The primer is awesome too - highly recommend!)

Tarte Cheek Stain in Blissful - My skin can dry out with too many powders or bronzers, so this creamy cheek stain is great for getting that rosy look without drying out my skin. I find that it also wears well throughout the day, which I appreciate when I'm melting on the metro commute home after a long work day.

Clinque Lash Power Long Wearing Mascara - Clinique mascara was the first "nice" mascara I was allowed to use as a teenager, and I have stuck to it ever since! This Lash Power formula is my favorite because it comes off with such ease when washing your face. Just use warm water and the mascara almost rubberizes and peels off. No raccoon eyes!

Hourglass Hidden Corrective Concealer - Another Hourglass product that burned a hole in my wallet, but I love, of course. This concealer is creamy and light, but still completely covers up any bags/dark circles. As someone who barely gets 6 hours of sleep each night, I so appreciate a good concealer and think it's worth the investment.

Origins A Perfect World Age Defense Guardian with White Tea - This little serum/moisturizer may be my favorite facial product I've ever discovered. EVER. I put this product on at night as my heavier moisturizer/anti-aging product (may as well start now!), and it literally makes my skin feel so silky. I have to stop myself from touching my face so much, as ridiculous as that sounds, because it is just that good. I literally ration out a pump each night to make sure it last.

Burt's Bees Sensitive Daily Moisturizer Cream - I picked up this product at Whole Foods recently after running out of my usual Cerave moisturizer. I was surprised to see that although this moisturizer is a cream, it doesn't clog my pores and feels really light. I think the little pump is cute too, so it may be a keeper!

Other vanity necessities:
- A photo of my lovely friends
- Tissues for mascara disasters (a regular occurrence for me)
- Favorite perfumes
- Sparkly jewelry
- My Lady Queen Elizabeth II: Because what can inspire you more to glam it up than the Queen herself! (A tea towel a friend brought me from London, which I got framed. Royal dork.)
Queen Elizabeth II
 - And last but not least, the special tray which holds my products was a gift from my parents when they went to Paris a few years back - I love trays and this one is both sentimental and beautiful!
Thanks again, Meredith!

Thank you, Clare! And, I adore your Queen towel. I may have to get one when I'm in London this summer! Do you think they have Kate Middleton towels? I want one.
