Fabulous Friday

First and foremost, I have business cards! If that isn't fabulous, I don't know what is. I was immediately drawn to these chevron beauties. I also love the fact that they are square. And if this weren't enough chevrony goodness for one day...

The other fabulousness this Friday is that my dear husband who hates painting more than getting a root canal has agreed to help me chevron out a wall! Isn't he just a peach? Now, this moment did not come without its fair share of convincing (and a small aforementioned fight), but that is all water under the bridge because the moment has come. In an effort to encourage this paint-a-thon, I have agreed to do all the actual painting if he will tape off the pattern for me. Being an engineer and all around perfectionist, I know his work will be flawless. As for my painting...that has yet to be seen.

I've been looking at pictures of chevrons to inspire my own design. The wall that awaits this work of art is the wall directly behind our television. I haven't been able to figure out what to do with it. The one thing that I thought would look terrific is sconces, but because we are renting, I didn't want that kind of labor intensive project. When my parents were visiting in August, my mom suggested that we paint stripes on the wall. I thought that was a great idea, but then I thought "If stripes are good, chevrons are better!" Of course they are, right?

When I saw this photo, I had my vision. I like the spacing and the soft color that prevents the pattern from feeling overwhelming.

This will be an adventure in patience (doing home improvement is always a way to give your relationship a little test) and precision (cross your fingers that we end up without paint on the rug, other items of furniture, etc.). More than anything else, I think that J. agreed to this project because I am hosting a bachelorette party next weekend for my soon to be sister-in-law. While I couldn't be more excited for a bunch of terrific ladies to descend on San Francisco, I get a little neurotic about being a hostess, and I want my apartment to be in tip top shape. Strangely, J. has not tried to dissuade me as he, too, appreciates a well-kept home. Really, it's ours not to question why (a little Tennyson for you on this lovely Friday)... I'm just happy we're getting our paint on!

Make this Friday fabulous.
