Every Girl's Essentials

Gwyneth interviews DVF

In this month's InStyle magazine, cover girl, Gwyneth Paltrow was interviewed by the illustrious Diane von Furstenburg. On her blog, goop, Gwyneth did her own interview in which she asked DVF what she thought were the essential items that everyone woman should own. Remember, when you're purchasing essentials it is really worth spending a little extra because those are the items in your closet that won't go out of style and will be the things you reach for again and again. I put together some personal recommendations for mid-price range items that I hope would be DVF approved!

Coats: A trench is a classic piece that will always be sophisticated and chic. This version from Banana Republic is well priced for this kind of wardrobe staple. This Topshop evening coat incorporates navy and black, which means it goes with twice as much. The cinched waist is a flattering option.

Dresses: DVF says that every girl needs two dresses: a wrap dress (which does happens to be her very own signature) and a black cocktail dress. The left option would be great with some statement jewelry. It is exceptionally versatile. These two wraps dresses are very flattering and the oxblood color is right on trend for fall.

Clutch, Bag, and High Heels: As far as accessories, DVF says we need a classic bag, and what is more classic than Coach? A clutch is the perfect addition to the little black dress, and a metallic is essentially a neutral. While I personally struggle with high heels, this pair is beautiful!

Leggings and a Cozy Sweater: And now my favorite essentials: the comfy clothes! Love these Emerson Fry leggings with the leather look. lululemon is sure bet. They can take you far beyond the gym! This sweater coat will cover a booty (I personally would never wear leggings without covering that bad boy up), and will look pulled together because of the classic color and lines.

Notice I am not recommending any hiking boots? Yeah, you're on your own on that one.

  1. Great post :-) Loving that black/navy coat and I can't believe it's Topshop!
